Investing in Electric Vehicle Chargepoints in your area

Work is about to start to install the next phase of electric vehicle chargepoints at some of our car parks.

The locations are listed below and determined by the criteria of the grant funding available from central government.

  • East Street, Leyland, PR25 3SH
  • Seven Stars, Leyland, PR25 1UP
  • William Street Tardy Gate, Lostock Hall, PR5 5RU
  • King Street, Lostock Hall, PR5 5HY
  • Chapel Yard, Walton le Dale, PR5 4AY
  • Margaret Road, Penwortham, PR1 9RA

This is an investment in areas of terraced properties where home charging isn’t currently an option due to a lack of a driveway and often not being able to park outside your own property.

These new chargepoints locations will allow residents the opportunity to consider an electric vehicle (new or second hand) by breaking down some of the barriers to accessing chargepoints near to where you live.

The chargepoints will be standard overnight chargers, meaning residents will be able to top up during the day or park overnight for a full charge.

Work is due to start at the beginning of December and will have three phases.

  • Phase 1 will be the installation of all the underground hardware (December 2024)
    • This phase is now complete at all sites
  • Phase 2 will be the connection to the grid done by Electricity NorthWest (Early 2025)
    • Electricity Northwest have provided us with the following provisional dates when they expect to be working on the sites to connect the junction boxes to the electricity grid.  We will update this page if we are made aware of any changes to the proposed schedule.
      • Tardy Gate -  27 March to 2 April 2025
      • Seven Stars - 3 April to 9 April 2025
      • Chapel Yard - 10 April to 16 April 2025
      • Margaret Road - 17 April to 23 April 2025
      • King Street - 24 April to 30 April 2025
      • East Street, Leyland - 1 May to 7 May 2025
  • Phase 3 will be the installation of the chargepoint pedestals, immediately after the connection to the grid.

There will be some short-term disruption on our car parks and parking bays out of use while this works takes place, and we are sorry if this causes any inconvenience.  We will endeavour to put signs up in each area and share the details on social media once we have confirmed start dates for each car park.

EV chargepoint locations across the Borough and beyond can all be found on the ZapMap website and app
