South Ribble Borough Council Youth Council
South Ribble Borough Council Youth Council is a chance for residents aged 13 to 17 to speak up and deliver positive action in the community.
Whether you are creative or strategic, campaigner or organiser or still trying to figure out your skillset - the Youth Council offers a safe and supportive space to contribute, shape ideas and lead change.
All we ask is that you bring your passion, an open mind and a willingness to make a difference in your borough and we’ll bring the snacks!
What is the Youth Council?
The Youth Council is a dynamic and diverse group of young people who are focused on turning passion into purpose.
From tackling issues that matter most to you, such as mental health for young people; or leading on projects that improve the lives of others, like support for the local Veterans community. The Youth Council offers a platform to collaborate, influence decisions and bring ideas to life.
What do we do and why should you join?
As a member of the Youth Council, you’ll have the opportunity to:
- shape projects that matter by designing and leading campaigns on issues important to young people and the wider community
- share your views with Community leaders and decision makers to help ensure young voices and experiences are heard
- collaborate with a diverse group of young people, community groups and organisations
- build confidence, gain experience and develop key life skills such as leadership and teamwork
- take part in volunteering, training and events
What is the time commitment?
Six or seven Youth Council meetings will take place across the academic term at the council's Civic Centre in Leyland.
The date and time is tentatively agreed as Wednesday 4.30pm to 6.30pm. However, this is subject to change as we will be querying with prospective members what their preferential days are and going with what works for the majority of members.
