Recycling in South Ribble

Recycling in South Ribble in 2020: it's more important (and easier) than ever.

And you can actually recycle much more than you think.

For example, clean plastic tubs, trays and pots can all now go in your blue bin.

What with Christmas not long behind us, you will no doubt have a house full of cardboard, wrapping paper, Christmas cards and other materials which you may be wondering: "Can I recycle this?"

Here are some helpful tips about recycling in South Ribble.

My bin was not emptied over Christmas – did my bin day temporarily change?

Yes, it did. You can click here to find out the affected dates, and the new collection dates in lieu of these.

Can I recycle my Christmas cards?

Yes. Plain Christmas cards and envelopes can be recycled in your recycling bin. Any extras such as ribbons, glitter or bows cannot be recycled and need to be removed first.

What about mince pie foil cases, wrapping paper and other seasonal items of rubbish?

Lancashire County Council has a comprehensive list on its website here: www.lancashire.gov.uk/waste-and-recycling/lancashire-recycles

How do I dispose of my Christmas tree? Is it eligible for recycling via my brown bin (paid-for garden waste subscription)?

There will be no separate collection of Christmas trees.

Residents subscribing to the garden waste collection scheme can dispose of them via their brown bin (cut to size to fit in the bin) or they can be taken to the Household Waste Recycling Centre on Flensburg Way.

How do I report a missed bin?

Visit: southribble.gov.uk/waste where you can report a missed bin, order a new container, find your collection dates, request a bulky waste collection, or request assistance with putting your bin out for collection (for the elderly or disabled).

I have a sofa and a fridge that I need to get rid of – will you collect it?

Yes, of course. There is a small charge, but the council does operate a bulky waste collection service.
