What is HAF?

The Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) scheme, funded by the Department for Education, aims to provide healthy food and enriching activities for children aged 4 to 16 who are eligible for benefit-related free school meals. The national HAF scheme has been running in South Ribble since 2021 and is available in the Summer, Christmas and Easter holidays.

We deliver a programme of activities as part of the HAF scheme, through South Ribble Leisure Centres and our high quality providers. Activities change throughout the year, but often include swimming, gymnastics, tennis, boxing skills, arts and crafts, multi-sports, football, forest school, climbing wall and much more.

The HAF scheme:

  • is free of charge
  • offers fun activities and experiences
  • includes free food and refreshments.

Make a HAF booking for your child/children

The process has changed, and you need a voucher to be able to book a place. If your child is eligible for benefits related free school meals, their school will give them a voucher. If you are unsure if your child is eligible, please ask their school for advice.

Eligibility

Your child is eligible if you live in the borough of South Ribble, your child is aged 4 to 16 and eligible for benefits related free school meals.

The Department for Education also allow 15% of places for children who are not on benefits related free school meals. This is for children whose parents struggle to pay for holiday activities and as result of other circumstances or vulnerabilities would really benefit from a free place. For further details, view Holiday activities and food programme (HAF) on the Lancashire County Council website.
