A new weekly food waste collection service begins across South Ribble today, Monday 13 April.

Here's what every resident needs to know.

Every household should already have received a free starter pack, which includes:

  • A 7‑litre kitchen caddy
  • A 23‑litre outdoor food waste caddy with a secure, lockable lid
  • Two rolls of kitchen caddy liners
  • An information leaflet

When to put your caddy out
Residents should put their outdoor caddy out on their usual bin collection day, from this week onwards. Food waste will be collected every week on the same day as general waste or recycling bins.

What about flats?
The service also covers flats and properties with shared waste facilities.

Why now?
The council is providing these collections following new national legislation that requires all English councils to offer weekly food waste recycling to every household. The aim is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve recycling rates.
