South Ribble’s Corporate Strategy for the upcoming year has been approved, setting out the council’s key priorities, focusing on the issues that matter most to residents.

The recently agreed strategy maps out how the council will support residents and drive the borough’s economy forward, focussing on healthy and happy communities where there are opportunities for everyone.

The council also commits to green and clean neighbourhoods and being an exemplary council that delivers high performing services and provides value for money.

Some key aims of the strategy are to:

  • Support residents through a community grant programme
  • Deliver youth provision in the borough
  • Deliver the next phase of the Leyland Town Deal and the Penwortham Masterplan
  • Support business and to invest in improving the borough
  • Help to protect the local environment
  • Provide good quality, affordable housing
  • Develop and deliver a cultural strategy

Caroline Wolfenden, Director of Change and Delivery at South Ribble Borough Council said, “The Corporate Strategy reflects the council’s commitment to delivering excellent services and achieving more for South Ribble communities. The priority is to continue to put people at the heart of everything we do and ensure that everyone feels satisfied with the service they receive from the council.

“The council wants a vibrant, green, and fair borough where everyone can benefit from opportunities, enjoy what’s on offer and have pride in place. It will be delivered through ongoing investment and regeneration of the borough, and by supporting all our residents and communities to thrive.”

Over the last 12 months the council has:

  • Delivered refurbishments to the borough’s leisure centres
  • Opened the flagship Jubilee Gardens extra care complex
  • Supported residents through the Household Support Fund and through social prescribing
  • Improved five play areas in the borough
  • Delivered phase one of the Leyland Town Deal

The Director of Change and Delivery continued, “Local Government Reorganisation is on the horizon, and the council hasn’t asked for this change, but is working with other councils in Lancashire to make sure that the proposal put forward provides the very best for residents and communities.

“In the meantime, we will continue to provide excellent services and drive the borough forward.”
