Free Winter Essentials pop up shop in the Civic Centre in Leyland from today, Wednesday 29 October to Thursday 30 October from 10am to 3pm.

Offering free winter essentials including adults and children’s coats, children’s jumpers, cardigans, hats, scarves and shoes, the event will also see the council’s social prescribing team on hand with several partners available to talk to families and to provide support.

Councillor Aniela Bylinski-Gelder, Deputy Leader of South Ribble Borough Council said, “It’s amazing to see a project like this that supports residents through what can be an incredibly difficult time of year.

“The aim of the winter essentials pop up shop is to provide families with the support that they need, when they need it. It’s not something as an administration we need to deliver, but we do so because our aim is to make sure everyone in our community can thrive.

“Working across our communities, with people from all walks of life coming together to support those who need it most is brilliant to see, and I want to thank every person who has been able donate to this worthy cause.

“It’s also an opportunity for families and individuals in South Ribble to speak to our additional support teams and access the services that they need most.”

The Winter Essentials pop up shop is part of the council’s commitment to providing year-round essential clothing for school aged children. This means families are also able to access clothing and school uniform donations throughout the year.

Residents can email householdsupportfund@southribble.gov.uk requesting support. The team will also have a limited number of vouchers available to support families with winter essentials. These will be issued on a first come first served basis.

Once contact details are provided, the council’s social prescribing team will run through the application form.

The full suite of support provided by the council can be found at https://southribble.gov.uk/costoflivingsupport.
