South Ribble Borough Council is offering up to £200 per project which sets out to support biodiversity, learning and community involvement.

People can apply online at www.southribble.gov.uk/climategrants.

Applications are open to any community groups, schools, town and parish councils, charities, and volunteer groups along with businesses looking to support biodiversity initiatives. 

Some examples of projects may include those which:

  • improve the visual aspect of an area
  • give a food source for pollinators
  • improve air quality
  • create a source of food and shelter for wildlife
  • create opportunities for learning and community involvement
  • encourages people to reuse, recycle, and upcycle

Councillor Kath Unsworth, Cabinet Member for Environment and Streetscene said, “We recognise the role that communities have in enhancing their local area and we know that there are so many groups coming together on brilliant initiatives from planting flowers to litter picking.

“I am so pleased that we can offer £10,000 to community groups and other organisations in small grants. Applications are open now and I am looking forward to seeing the range of projects that come through.”

Projects must be completed within 6 months of the grant funding being awarded.

Projects must take place in a community space, school grounds, park, front of business premises (or area where the public have access) within the borough of South Ribble, on land that is owned by or where the applicant has an agreement with a local landowner to carry out work on their land.

Projects in private gardens or in areas where there is no public or community access will not be considered.
