A wide range of free or low-cost summer activities on offer to help families stay active, engaged and connected during the school summer holidays.
With a focus on keeping active, the activities include everything from sport and dance to creative play and outdoor adventure - ensuring there is something for children of all ages and interests.
Councillor Aniela Bylinski Gelder, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Communities and Housing said, “We recognise that summer holidays can be challenging for families, and we want to do all we can to ensure families can enjoy holiday camps and activities across the borough - either fully funded or for a small cost.
“Whether your child enjoys being creative, playing sport, or exploring outdoors, there is an opportunity to get involved and stay active this summer.”
Key programmes and events:
Holiday Activities and Food Programme (HAF)
The council is once again delivering a wide selection of free summer activities through the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme, specifically for children who are eligible for benefit-related free school meals.
Activities include sports, crafts, dance, gymnastics, and more - each session also includes a healthy meal. Eligible families should have received an e-voucher from HolidayActivities to be able to make bookings, but please email haf@southribble.gov.uk if you need help with this.
Active Camps – Holiday Provision
Open to all families (£14 per day, or £52 for Monday to Thursday including lunch) or free for those who are registered for HAF, Active Camps provide an affordable and enjoyable childcare option throughout the summer.
Activities include football, dodgeball, cycling, scootering, dance, arts, and crafts and much more.
Free family activities – open to all
For families looking for free, drop-in activities, the council is hosting sessions at parks and community venues across South Ribble.
Activities include learn-to-ride cycling sessions, tennis, cricket, dodgeball, orienteering and family games.
Councillor Bylinski Gelder continued, “We’re always looking for ways we can go above and beyond and create additional provision for families across the borough.
“I am proud we’re able to offer our low-cost activities this summer for children of all ages. I encourage you to see what we have on offer and take part!”
