Visitors enjoying Music in the Park

South Ribble has seen several areas of growth when it comes to visitor numbers to the borough.

The recently released STEAM data from Marketing Lancashire, covering 2023, shows visitor numbers have reached 3.03m for South Ribble, up from 2.99m in 2022.  

There have also been positive signs when it comes to the number of day visitors, staying visitors and the number jobs that visitors to South Ribble support.  

Councillor Matthew Farnworth, South Ribble Borough Council Cabinet Member (Culture, Community Wealth Building and Licensing) said “It’s always good to see figures going in a positive direction when it comes to visitors to our fantastic towns and villages which ultimately supports local businesses, employment and residents.  

“There’s so much to enjoy in South Ribble, from our brilliant events such as Music in the Park, South Ribble Live and A Taste of Leyland, to our brilliant green flag award winning green spaces, refurbished play areas, to unique independent businesses, historic halls and more, so it’s no surprise that visitors are choosing to spend time here.”  

Lancashire saw an estimated 66.7 million tourism visits to the region in 2023, with South Ribble accounting for 5% of this.  

The number of full-time equivalent jobs supported by the expenditure and activity of visitors to South Ribble has seen an increase of 7% on the previous year, way ahead of Lancashire as a whole.
