South Ribble Borough Council is pleased to announce the launch of its Active Lifestyles programme for 2024, a dynamic 6-week course designed to inspire positive behaviour change.
The programme starts September 10, 2024, and will be a mixture of classroom-based activities and exercise groups
Aimed at adults seeking healthier choices for weight management and physical activity, this free programme offers tailored advice, interactive sessions, and expert guidance.
The programme also offers attendees long-term support, with monthly catch-up sessions for a year after the program has been completed, this also includes peer support sessions and participants can share their experiences in group sessions.
Councillor Clare Hunter, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Wellbeing said:
“Our Active Lifestyles programme is a fantastic opportunity for residents to take charge of their health. By combining expert advice, tailored exercise classes, and a supportive community, we’re empowering positive change and want to help South Ribble residents make healthier choices for themselves and their loved ones.”
Programme Structure:
- Six consecutive face-to-face sessions
- Each session includes 30 minutes of group exercise followed by a nutrition discussion
- A supportive and welcoming environment
Eligibility Criteria:
Participants must be aged 18 or older
Have a Body Mass Index (BMI) between 30 and 45 (or 25 - 45 for South Asian heritage or individuals with disabilities)
What the course covers:
- How to achieve a healthy weight
- How to increase your physical activity or maintain your fitness goals
- How to break unhealthy habits

Leyland Leisure Centre – Classroom and Exercise Group
Starts Tuesday 10 September
1:15pm – 2:30pm
Civic Centre, West Paddock, Leyland – Classroom
Starts Tuesday 10 September
6pm – 7pm
South Ribble Tennis and Fitness Centre, Bamber Bridge – Classroom and Exercise Group.
Starts Thursday 12 September
10:30am – 12:00pm
The programme is not accessible for pregnant or breastfeeding individuals, or those with diagnosed eating disorders, underlying medical conditions related to obesity identified by healthcare professionals.
A GP or medical professional referral maybe required for anyone who wishes to attend. You are able self-refer if you feel you meet the eligibility criteria.
