Thousands of residents and visitors attended Longton this weekend as South Ribble Live came to town.

The live music event returned to the village last weekend following in the footsteps of its success in Penwortham.

130 performances across 17 venues took place over the course of Friday and Saturday, providing a range of music genres in two fun fuelled evenings. Both events in Penwortham and Longton have been organised by South Ribble Borough Council in partnership with The Creative Network and funded by the Government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

Leader of the Council, Councillor Paul Foster, said: “We are overwhelmed by the support the people of South Ribble and beyond have shown for this event.

“We’d like to say a massive thank you to The Creative Network, acts, venues and volunteers who helped us to make the South Ribble Live events as big and bold as they have been.

“We hope the momentum for these community events continues and we can deliver more like these in the future”.

Christian Gemson who runs Origin Pets, one of the many venues that took part in the event said: "We've only been open for six months and when we were offered the opportunity to take part we jumped at it. We've attended Longton Live as punters before so it's been great to take part this year as a venue. The team at the council looked after us throughout the process and walked us through every step. It's a brilliant event, really well organised and just a really good weekend for the community and businesses like ours."

The Creative Network, who work in partnership with the Council to organise the LIVE events said: “Since 2013 we have been bringing fantastic memories of live entertainment to Longton.  Everything from metal to Mozart!  Country to choirs!  What a weekend of fun and laughter!  It was great to see the people of Longton and surrounds coming together as a community, enjoying music, drama and dance in 17 venues”.
