Visitors to Worden Park will soon benefit from improved parking arrangements designed to make access easier, increase parking availability and support the long-term future of Worden Park.

Based on feedback from nearby residents and park users, South Ribble Borough Council yesterday (3 September) began work on improving the overflow car park allowing it to open it as a permanent part of the car park all year-round making it easier to access the park during busy periods.

When works are complete later in the autumn, tariffs will change allowing for longer stays which will allow more people to enjoy the park and support local businesses.

Everyone will still have access to two hours free parking (a time of arrival ticket must be visibly displayed), Monday to Friday with flexible options allowing for longer stays.

The car park will remain free of charge weekends, bank holidays and school holidays.

Councillor Wesley Roberts, Cabinet Member for Finance and Assets, said, "Worden Park is one of South Ribble’s most treasured destinations and we want to ensure it remains easy to access and most importantly, an enjoyable experience for everyone who visits.

"These new improvements are about making parking easier by increasing availability and creating more flexible options for residents and visitors to enjoy everything the park has to offer. The introduction of a permanent year-round overflow car park will ease the pressure on the residents with students wanting to park near college, whilst also allowing residents and visitors to stay at the park for as long as they want.

"These changes will support local businesses, improve the visitor experience and help ensure Worden Park remains a thriving destination."

Throughout the development of the scheme, the council has worked closely with businesses based at Worden Hall to ensure they continue to be supported. Existing arrangements for tenants will remain in place, while additional provisions will be available to support events held at the venue, such as weddings.

Income generated through the new parking arrangements will be reinvested into the upkeep and management of the park and parking facilities, helping to ensure Worden Park remains a great day out for visitors and residents.
