South Ribble Borough Council recently welcomed a representative from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) to view the progress of the Leyland Town Deal.
With the two principal contractors now on site, progress is being made across all areas of the project which will see a refurbished Leyland Market, new market square, commercial premises, and affordable housing.
The first phase of the project will deliver 22 affordable homes on Quin Street, delivered by Tyson Construction. The new homes are fully formed and soon to be finished internally. The new central carpark is formed with the roads beginning to take shape and works on the pedestrian footbridge are currently underway.
Eric Wright Construction continue to progress works on the Leyland Market refurbishment, new civic square, and commercial units. Progress to date includes service isolations and site preparation and, in the Market, internal finishes and windows have been stripped out ready for the roof to be replaced.
Councillor Matthew Tomlinson, Leader of South Ribble Borough Council said, “I’m extremely pleased with the progress being made on the Leyland Town Deal works. This is a truly transformative project for our town, and it’s something we’re immensely proud to be delivering for our communities.
“As well as revitalising key areas of the town centre, the scheme will provide much‑needed affordable homes for local people, which will be owned and managed by the council.”
The scale and impact of activity on site was showcased during a visit from a representative from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG), a key funder of the project, who joined project partners for a guided tour of the works currently underway.
The visit provided an opportunity to demonstrate progress, discuss next phases, and highlight the benefits the Town Deal investment will bring to Leyland and its residents.
The Town Deal programme aims to revitalise key areas of the town centre, enhance public spaces and support economic growth, ensuring Leyland remains a vibrant and attractive place to live, work and visit.
Steve Reid, Pre-Construction Director at Eric Wright Construction commented, “We are proud to be working in partnership with our valued clients, South Ribble Borough Council. Today marks the start on site for this project following successful enabling works. We are pleased to be the contractor delivering such important works that will not only boost the town centre economically but provide improved community facilities for years to come. We look forward to providing further updates as the project progresses.”
Jeremy Whittle Managing Director at R.P Tyson Construction Ltd added: “We are proud to be delivering the first phase of affordable homes at Quin Street as part of the wider Leyland Town Deal. This development represents an important step in providing high-quality, much-needed housing for the local community.
