Our Active Lifestyles programme is a free six week course designed to support adults in making positive, sustainable changes to their health and wellbeing.
Delivered by our Active Health team, the programme, which starts in June, supports adults seeking help with weight management, physical activity and healthier lifestyle choices, and relies on both self‑referrals and GP referrals. Previous courses have seen strong outcomes, and residents are encouraged to sign up early to secure a place.
Each six‑week course includes a mix of nutrition education and physical activity, with weekly sessions made up of around 30 to 40 minutes of nutrition guidance followed by 30 minutes of exercise. Participants receive an in‑depth nutrition workbook written by registered nutritionists and personal trainers, helping to dispel common nutrition myths and move away from fad diets.
The programme is designed for adults aged 18 and over with a Body Mass Index (BMI) between 30 and 45. For individuals living with a disability, or those from South Asian, Chinese, other Asian, Middle Eastern, Black African, or African-Caribbean backgrounds, the eligible BMI range is between 25 and 45, reflecting an increased risk of diet-related conditions such as diabetes.
Courses starting in June will take place at:
- Tuesday 9 June, 1.15pm to 2.30pm at Leyland Leisure Centre, PR25 2EX
- Tuesday 9 June, 6pm to 7pm at Civic Centre, West Paddock, PR25 1DH (theory‑based)
- Thursday 11 June, 10.30am to 12noon at Penwortham Community Centre, PR1 9EQ
The programme also offers long‑term support, including follow-up sessions after completion and access to peer support, helping participants maintain progress beyond the initial six weeks.
