As part of Dementia Action Week 2026, On the Road experience will bring the UK’s first immersive mobile museum to South Ribble.
The experience is designed to support people living with dementia, as well as those who are vulnerable or socially isolated.
Organised by the Dementia Community Connection and supported by the council, the mobile museum will visit Bamber Bridge Leisure Centre car park, Withy Grove Park, PR5 6YJ, on Tuesday 19 May 2026, and will be open to the public from 11am to 4pm, with visitors welcome to drop in throughout the day.
House of Memories: On the Road uses familiar objects, images and memories to spark conversation, connection and wellbeing. The experience is inclusive and accessible, providing a calm and welcoming environment for people living with dementia, their carers, families and support networks.
Alongside the mobile museum experience, visitors will be able to access information about practical dementia support tools, including Forget‑me‑not forms, hospital passports, hidden disability lanyards, and Message in a Bottle schemes. These tools help professionals and services better understand individual needs and provide safer, more personalised care.
The event also signposts visitors to local dementia support and advice through the Dementia Community Connection website, a one‑stop hub for information and guidance. Visit the website here: southribble.dementiacc.org.uk/.
Councillor Aniela Bylinski Gelder, Cabinet Member for Communities and Customers said: “I’m so proud that we’re able to bring this innovative experience to the borough to support some of our most vulnerable.
"As a council, we’re dedicated to go over and beyond our statutory duties to support all of our residents to live well.
"The House of Memories: On the Road experience will be a meaningful opportunity for people living with dementia, their families and carers to connect and I hope that people will come and join us on 19 May.”
Visitors are advised to wear warm, suitable clothing, as the experience takes place in a mobile unit.
