If you have got household rubbish that is too big for your bin such as an old fridge, television, mattress, or chair then we can collect it.

Before you make a request, have you considered donating your item to a reuse charity?

If you have furniture that is clean, in a reasonable and reusable condition it may be suitable to donate.

Alternatively, you could also donate unwanted but useful items on the Freegle website, or try Lovejunk which is a marketplace for reusers. 

Arrange a large item collection

When you request a large item collection, you need to tell us exactly which items you want us to collect. Any items that are not detailed on your original request will not be collected. Please make sure the items are outside your house, but still on your property by 7.30am on the day of collection.

You will be given a date of collection at the time of booking so you know when to have your items ready.

We will not enter the property under any circumstances.

Cost of large item collections

Collection of large household items is a chargeable service, the cost for collection is:

Non-electrical items  £17 for up to 4 items, with additional items costing £4.50 each. 
Electrical household items  £13 per item

Additional items for collection  

If you have booked a collection and wish to change it or add more items, you must call us on 01772 625625 at least 2 working days before the collection is scheduled for.  

Items we are unable to collect

We are unable to collect larger or heavier items such as cast iron baths, pianos, garden sheds and garage doors. 

We are unable to collect building materials, metal, engine oil, car parts, glass, asbestos, pressurised gas containers and corrosive or other dangerous chemicals. You may be able to take some of these items to your local recycling centre (tip) but please check what they accept before making a journey. Please note we cannot do house clearances.

Cancelling a large item collection

If you need to cancel your collection please contact us on 01772 625625. Cancellations must be made at least 2 working days prior to the collection date in order for a refund to be issued.

Terms and conditions of the service

Please ensure you agree to the terms and conditions of the service before arranging a collection:

  • we are unable to collect from inside the property, so the items must be presented outside at an agreed colleciton point for no later than 7.30am on your agreed pick-up day. There will be no refund given if items were not presented in time
  • clear access from the collection point to the removal vehicle is required. If, during the crew's assesment it is deemed the collection route is not safe to navigate then the item will be left and no refund will be given. Examples include - more than a 2 step rise without an adequate staging area between rises, excessively slippery slopes or excessively uneven ground. These examples are only a guide and not a definitive list
  • 2 people must be able to lift the items. If too heavy, the items may not be removed. Therefore, please ensure soft furnishings are covered to prevent them from getting wet and doubling in weight. A refund will not be given if a wet item is too heavy to lift
  • any items containing glass must have the glass taped to reduce the risk of it smashing during removal and transit
  • large items, such as garden swings, trampolines etc, should be dismantled prior to removal
  • items such as fridges and freezers must be completely emptied of food prior to collection. Failure to empty will mean the item is not collected and no refund will be given.
